2018 Supercars Silly Season

Post by robhealy86 » Sat Dec 09, 2017 6:58 pm

It seems very early to be starting this topic but all but 1 seat has been locked in for 2018 with only a few numbers & sponsors to be locked in. The only seat remaining at this point is at Tekno where Jack Le Brocq is thought to be a shoe-in with GoGetta backing. Below is how the 2018 Supercars grid is shaping up:

Tickford Racing (Tickford built Ford Falcon FG-X)
#5 Mark Winterbottom (Bottle-O)
#6 Cameron Waters (Monster Energy)
#55 Chaz Mostert (Supercheap Auto)
#56 Richie Stanaway (MEGA Bulk Fuels)

23Red Racing (Tickford built Ford Falcon FG-X)
#023 Will Davison (Milwaukee Tools)

DJR Team Penske (DJRTP built Ford Falcon FG-X)
#12 Fabian Coulthard (Shell Helix)
#17 Scott McLaughlin (Shell Helix)

Matt Stone Racing (DJRTP built Ford Falcon FG-X)
#35 Todd Hazlewood (Bigmate GPS Technology)

Nissan Motorsport (Nismo built Nissan Altima L33)
#10 Andre Heimgartner (Carsales)
#15 Rick Kelly (Sengled)
#23 Michael Caruso (Nismo)
#78 Simona De Silvestro (Harvey Norman)

Red Bull Holden Racing Team (T8 built Holden Commodore ZB)
#1 Jamie Whincup (Red Bull)
#97 Shane Van Gisbergen (Red Bull)
Triple Eight Race Engineering (T8 built Holden Commodore ZB)
#888 Craig Lowndes (Autobarn)

Tekno Autosports (T8 built Holden Commodore ZB)
#19 Jack Le Brocq (GoGetta Equipment Funding)

Team 18 (T8 built Holden Commodore ZB)
#18 Lee Holdsworth (Preston Hire)

Garry Rogers Motorsport (GRM built Holden Commodore ZB)
#33 Garth Tander (Wilson Security)
#34 James Golding (Wilson Security)

Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU built Holden Commodore ZB)
#2 James Courtney (Boost Mobile)
#22 Scott Pye (Boost Mobile)

Erebus Motorsport (Erebus built Holden Commodore ZB)
#9 David Reynolds (Penrite Oil)
#99 Anton De Pasquale (ToolPro)

Brad Jones Racing (BJR built Holden Commodore ZB)
#8 Nick Percat (Timken Bearings)
#14 Tim Slade (Freightliner)
#21 Tim Blanchard (Cooldrive Distribution)

As can be seen above, there are quite a few changes in 2018 & a high turnover of drivers. Veterans Jason Bright & Todd Kelly have hung up their helmets and James Moffat & Dale Wood are no longer full-time. 5 full-time rookies in Richie Stanaway, James Golding, Jack Le Brocq, Todd Hazlewood & Anton De Pasquale have now joined the ranks. Andre Heimgartner also rejoins the field after a year on the side-lines. Prodrive Racing Australia, Mobil 1 HSV Racing & Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport have all gone through a re-brand (& ownership changes for two) becoming Tickford Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United & 23Red Racing respectively. A completely new team to the main-game in Matt Stone Racing has also made the step-up from Super2, leasing an REC owned by Jason Bright & sourcing a car from DJRTP. Simona De Silvestro will have had a full season under her belt & after her impressive weekend at Newcastle it will be interesting to see if she can raise the bar on her rookie season. Finally, all the Holden teams are set to debut the Triple 8 designed ZB Commodore.

With such a changed grid, 2018 promises to be the most highly competitive season Supercars has had for quite a few years.
